Mail merge and Gmail sending: questions people ask
General
What is Fusomail?
Fusomail sends personalised email campaigns from your own Gmail. You import a list, write one email with fields such as {{first_name}}, and Fusomail sends each person their own copy at a pace Gmail accepts.
Do I need a Gmail account?
Yes, for now: a personal Gmail account or a Google Workspace account on your own domain. Microsoft Outlook and other providers are planned.
Does Fusomail read my inbox?
No. Fusomail asks Google only for permission to send email on your behalf. It cannot read, search or delete anything in your mailbox.
How many emails can I send a day?
Google sets a daily sending limit for every account. It is lower for personal Gmail accounts than for Google Workspace, and Google may change it. Fusomail paces each campaign to stay within that limit, and your plan sets how many emails you can send each month.
Will my emails go to spam?
No tool can guarantee inbox placement. Your best chances come from emailing people who expect to hear from you, writing like a person rather than an advert, keeping links few, and making it easy to unsubscribe. Fusomail adds the unsubscribe link for you.
Can I send cold emails?
Only when you have a lawful reason to contact each person, and the rules differ by country: business outreach is allowed in some places with a clear opt-out, while others need consent first. You are responsible for following the law that applies to you. Bought, rented or scraped lists are not allowed on Fusomail.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan has no time limit and needs no card. Move to a paid plan when you need to send more.
Which currencies can I pay in?
Prices are shown in rupees, US dollars, euros and pounds. Paid plans will be sold in rupees first, through Razorpay with a GST invoice; online payment is still being switched on. Payment in other currencies is being set up; until then those prices show what to expect.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, and is not renewed after that. Your account moves to the Free plan; nothing is deleted.
Who can see my contacts?
Only the people in your workspace. Your contacts are used to send your campaigns and for nothing else: we never sell them, share them or email them ourselves.
How do I get help?
Write to hello@fusomail.com. A person reads every message.
Merge fields
About merge fields →Which fields can I use?
Any column in the list you imported. The column name becomes the field name, so a column called Company is used as {{company}}.
Can I use fields in the subject line?
Yes. Fields work in the subject and in the body.
What happens when someone has no value for a field?
If the field has a fallback, such as {{first_name|there}}, the fallback is used. If it has none, Fusomail lists the people without a value before the campaign starts, so nobody receives “Hi ,”.
CSV and Excel import
About CSV and Excel import →Do I need Google Sheets?
No. Upload a .csv or .xlsx file from your computer. If your list is in Google Sheets, download it as CSV or Excel first. Older .xls files need saving as .xlsx or CSV.
Do you sell or share my contacts?
No. Your contacts are used only to send your own campaigns. We never sell them, share them, or email them ourselves.
Can I import a list I bought?
No. Our terms forbid bought, rented or scraped lists. You need a lawful reason to email each person on your list.
Attachments
About attachments →How big can the attachments be?
Up to 10 files and 20 MB of files an email. Files grow by about a third on the way, and some receiving mail servers refuse messages over 25 MB, so keep them under about 18 MB when you can.
Which files can’t be attached?
The file types Gmail blocks, such as .exe, .bat and .js, including inside a .zip or a password-protected zip. Fusomail refuses them before you send, with the reason.
Can each person get a different file?
Not today: a campaign’s files go to every person in it. For something that differs per person, such as an invoice, put a link to it in a column of your list and use it as a merge field, for example {{invoice_link}}.
Can I change the files after a campaign starts?
No. Files can be added or removed only while a campaign is a draft, so everyone in it gets the same files. Deleting a campaign frees the storage its files used.
Which plans include attachments?
Every plan, Free included. Plans differ in how much storage the files of all your campaigns and templates may use together: Free 25 MB, Starter 250 MB, Premium 1 GB and Pro 2 GB.
Sends from your Gmail
About sends from your Gmail →Does Fusomail read my emails?
No. Fusomail asks Google only for the “send email on your behalf” permission (gmail.send). It cannot read, search or delete anything in your mailbox.
Does it work with a personal Gmail account?
Yes. Fusomail works with personal @gmail.com accounts and with Google Workspace accounts on your own domain. A personal account has a lower daily limit, so a long list takes more days.
Will my emails land in the inbox?
No tool can promise that. Sending from your own address, to people who expect to hear from you, with an easy way to unsubscribe, gives you the best chance.
Can I use Outlook or another email provider?
Gmail and Google Workspace come first. Microsoft Outlook and other providers are planned.
Email verification
About email verification →How does Fusomail check an address?
It looks at the address itself, whether it is a role address or a throwaway service, whether the domain looks like a typo of a big provider’s, and asks DNS whether the domain accepts email. It never sends anything to the address and never connects to the person’s mail server (SMTP probing), which can harm your reputation.
Does verification guarantee an email won’t bounce?
No. A mailbox can be full or closed even when its domain accepts email; only the receiving server knows. Verification removes the addresses that are certain or likely to fail.
Is my list sent to another company to be checked?
No. The checks run on Fusomail’s own servers; only each address’s domain is looked up in DNS, as any mail server does before delivering.
Which plans include email verification?
Starter and up (Starter, Premium and Pro). On the Free plan, imported addresses are still checked for ones that cannot work, such as addresses without an @.
Deliverability check
About deliverability check →What do SPF, DKIM and DMARC do?
They let receiving servers confirm that an email really comes from your domain: SPF lists the servers allowed to send for it, DKIM signs each email, and DMARC says what to do with emails that fail. Gmail and Yahoo expect all three from bulk senders.
Why does DKIM say “not confirmed”?
Fusomail looks for Google’s key at google._domainkey on your domain. If DKIM was set up with another selector, the key can’t be seen from outside, so it is reported as not confirmed, never as broken.
Does a high score mean my emails reach the inbox?
No tool can promise that. The score covers what can be checked before sending; who is on your list, whether they expect your email and how they react matter too.
Which plans include the deliverability check?
Starter and up (Starter, Premium and Pro). On the Free plan the check shows as a note with a link to Plan & billing.
Custom blocks
About custom blocks →Can I use a block in the subject line?
No. Blocks go in the body; the subject takes merge fields.
What happens if I rename a block?
Nothing breaks. A block’s token is fixed when the block is made, so renaming it never changes an email that uses it.
Which plans include custom blocks?
Starter and up (Starter, Premium and Pro). On the Free plan the Blocks tab and picker show a note with a link to Plan & billing.
Scheduling
About scheduling →Can I change a scheduled campaign?
Yes. Until it starts you can move it back to a draft, change anything and schedule it again, or start it straight away.
Which plans can schedule campaigns?
Starter and up. On the Free plan a campaign starts when you launch it.
Follow-ups
About follow-ups →Do follow-ups stop when someone replies?
Not by themselves. Fusomail can’t see replies, because it only has permission to send from your Gmail, not to read it. They stop when you mark the person as replied, one by one or by uploading a list. They stop by themselves on a click, when click counting is on, and on an unsubscribe.
Do follow-ups land in the same Gmail thread?
Fusomail sends each one as a reply in the same conversation: the same subject with “Re:”, the headers that link it to the previous email, and Gmail’s id of the thread.
Do attachments go with every follow-up?
No. Files go with the first email only.
Do follow-ups count toward my emails?
Yes. Every follow-up is an email: it counts toward your plan’s monthly emails and the Gmail account’s daily limit. If the month runs out, the campaign pauses until you resume it.
Which plans include follow-ups?
Starter and up (Starter, Premium and Pro). On the Free plan the section shows a note with a link to Plan & billing. A workspace that moves to Free keeps the follow-ups of campaigns it already launched.
Inbox rotation
About inbox rotation →Does inbox rotation get round Gmail’s sending limits?
No. Each account stays within its own daily limit, set below the one Google gives it, and keeps its own pace. Your plan’s monthly emails count every email, from every account. Use accounts that belong to you or your team, for people who expect to hear from you.
Which account do replies go to?
To the account that sent that person’s email. Their follow-ups go from the same account, in the same Gmail thread, so the whole conversation stays in one inbox.
What happens if one account is disconnected mid-campaign?
The emails it hasn’t tried yet move to the campaign’s other accounts. Follow-ups, and anything it already tried, wait for it to be connected again rather than switching accounts. The campaign pauses only when none of its accounts can send, and says which one to reconnect.
Which plans include inbox rotation?
Premium and up (Premium and Pro): up to 3 accounts on Premium and 10 on Pro. Premium isn’t on sale yet; it opens soon. On the plans below, a campaign sends from one account and the option shows a note with a link to Plan & billing. A workspace that moves to a smaller plan keeps the accounts of campaigns it already launched.
Clicks and results
About clicks and results →Does Fusomail track replies?
No. Spotting replies needs permission to read your inbox, which Fusomail does not ask for. Replies arrive in your Gmail as usual, and you can mark people as replied so follow-ups stop for them.
Why don’t you show opens?
Opens are counted with a hidden image. Privacy features in some mail apps load every image and others block them, so open counts are guesses. Clicks and replies tell you more.
Unsubscribe and suppression
About unsubscribe and suppression →Do I need an unsubscribe link?
For marketing and outreach emails, laws such as CAN-SPAM in the US, GDPR and PECR in Europe and the UK, and Google’s rules for bulk senders all expect an easy way to opt out. Fusomail adds one for you.
What is the List-Unsubscribe header?
A line in the email’s headers, defined in RFC 2369 and RFC 8058, that tells Gmail and other inboxes how to unsubscribe someone in one click. Gmail then shows its own “Unsubscribe” button next to your name.
Can someone subscribe again?
Yes, if they ask you to. Removing an address from the suppression list is a deliberate step, recorded with who did it.
Team workspaces
About team workspaces →How many people can be in a workspace?
It depends on the plan: Free 1, Starter 1, Premium 1 and Pro 5. Plans with more than one team member open once the features they add are built.
