Merge fields

Merge fields: write one email, each person gets their own

Put merge fields like {{first_name}} and {{company}} anywhere in the subject or the body. Fusomail fills them in from your list for every person, and shows you exactly what each one will receive before anything is sent.

Anjali, a quick idea for Chai Point

Hi Anjali, I saw Chai Point opened a second place in Pune. We design menus and signage for cafés — may I send two ideas?

What it does

  • Any column becomes a field

Every column in your list can be used: first name, company, city, or a line you wrote for that one person.

  • A fallback for empty values

Write {{first_name|there}} and anyone without a first name gets “Hi there” instead of “Hi ,”.

  • Empty values caught first

If a field without a fallback is empty for some people, Fusomail lists them before the campaign starts, so you can fill the gaps or leave those people out.

  • Preview any person

Pick any contact and read their exact subject and body. What you see is what they get.

  • Plain or formatted

Write plain text, or add simple formatting such as bold text, links and lists.

  • Templates you can reuse

Save the emails you send often, copy them and change them for the next campaign. A test copy to yourself shows how it reads in your inbox.

How it works

  1. 1

Write the subject and the body, and add fields such as {{first_name}} where you want them.

  2. 2

Give a field a fallback where some people may have no value: {{first_name|there}}.

  3. 3

Preview the email for a few different people on your list.

  4. 4

Send yourself a test, then start the campaign.

Questions about merge fields

Which fields can I use?

Any column in the list you imported. The column name becomes the field name, so a column called Company is used as {{company}}.

Can I use fields in the subject line?

Yes. Fields work in the subject and in the body.

What happens when someone has no value for a field?

If the field has a fallback, such as {{first_name|there}}, the fallback is used. If it has none, Fusomail lists the people without a value before the campaign starts, so nobody receives “Hi ,”.
